Release- Race Report 5-16-08
By Mark
Baute
Hudson, North Carolina (May 16, 2008) - Contractors
Resources Night at the Races was filled with lots of
excitement on Friday night.
With Hickory Motor Speedway not racing this week,
several new faces were spotted in the pits of Tri-County.
The
Super Trucks raced first with the #09 of Scott Whitaker taking
the pole and inverting back to 6th after the dice
roll. The race
included three cautions, all by the same driver. The finish
reminded the crowd of close action from a couple of weeks ago
when the late models finished 3 wide. This week Dexter Canipe Jr. came across the finish line with
trucks slamming on their brakes to avoid crashing and still
trying to cross the finish line first.
The top five consisted of Ben Ebeling, Travis Mosley,
Dexter Canipe Jr, Ernie Harris and Scott Whitaker.
The Late Model pole sitter Lucas Ransone dropped back to start
third putting rookie Ryan Truex, brother of Sprint Cup driver
Martin Truex Jr, on the inside during his debut of Late Model
racing. Kevin Leicht, last weeks winner, started outside pole.
From the dropping of the green flag, Leicht jumped to a large
lead in the first five laps. Lucas Ransone dropped back in the pack and started making his
way to catch Leicht. Caution
in lap 33 bunched all the cars back together.
Three laps after the green was waved an accident
occurred involving the 53 of Stan Robinson, 44 Blake Haugland,
and 5 Derek Kneeland. Leicht
got the jump in the final restart and led all 50 laps of the
Late Model feature. Ransone, Todd Goble, Lee Tissot and
Coleman Pressley rounded out the top five.
In
the Baton Tire Street Stock race, Chris Townsend got out to
the lead and was about to run away from the pack when Kevin
Eby decided that he would put some pressure on after a caution
caused by a tire falling off of Chris Kidd’s #7 on the back
stretch. Townsend
collected his third win of the season and his second in a row.
Eby, Marshall Sutton, Josh Burchette and Mike Hatton rounded
out the top five.
The
Red Baron Race Parts Hobby Stocks had the Superman of Wayne
Harrington taking the checkers, Chad Miller, Stephen Clippard,
Jimmy Whisnant and Carroll McKinney rounding out the top five.
