Family Night at the Races
Press
Release- Race Report 5-9-08
By Mark
Baute
Hudson, North Carolina (May 9, 2008) - Family Night
at the races opened with pole positions in the Baton Tire
Street Stock division in which Terrence Tucker ran an 18.226
and inverted the dice back to fourth position. Pepsi Limited
Late Model pole sitter Bill
Cassavaugh ran a 17.049 and he inverted back to sixth after
the dice roll. In
the Late Model division, Kevin Leicht won his second pole of
the season running a 16.357 beating Lee Tissot by 0.013.
Feature racing began with the Red Baron Race Parts Hobby
Stocks having the #88 of Chad Miller start up front followed
by Wayne “Superman” Harrington’s #3. Stephen Clippard
finished third, Jimmy Whisnant in fourth and Carroll McKinney
in fifth.
The Baton Tire Street Stocks packed a lot of action in
their race tonight. The first three laps of the race held two
different cautions, taking two drivers out of the race with
damaged cars. On the second lap, Kevin Eby,
Jonathon Smith, Kody Townsend and Terrence Tucker got together
leaving Tucker in the wall. One lap after the green came back,
Jonathon Smith and Kevin Eby got tangled together on the front
stretch and Jonathon Smith spun hard into the front wall and
he found his way to the pits for the night.
After those two cautions we had a solid battle up front
by Chris Townsend and Jeremy Pelfrey, side by side action for
nearly eighteen to nineteen laps, changing lead every lap.
Chris Townsend ended up beating Pelfrey to the line for his
second win of the season.
Rounding out the top five were Townsend, Pelfrey, David
Smith, Marshall Sutton and Kevin Eby.
The
Pepsi Limited Late Models fielded a couple of new drivers this
week including Hickory regular Josh Wright.
Action packed racing from front to back. After
inverting back to sixth after the dice roll Bill Cassavaugh
did the most work making his way back up for a third place
finish. Scott Franklin led all the way from the green all the
way to the checkers. Josh Wright made his way up to follow
Franklin. Cassavaugh, Kevin Dill and Chris Phipps rounded out
the top five.
The
Late Model race was ready for action. Eleven drivers finished
on the lead lap. Kevin Leicht moved to outside pole on his
dice inversion of one putting Lee Tissot on the inside pole
position. Leicht
did not take very long before he found his way in front of
Tissot and kept the lead with Tissot battling him for the
first half of the race. Meanwhile, Andy Loden, current points
leader, moved in behind Tissot and took second place away and
started to challenge Leicht for first place.
Top five were Kevin Leicht, Andy Loden, Lee Tissot,
rookie Grant Wimbish and Travis Swaim.
Road
Rage finished the show off with lots of hard knocks. Junk cars
beat and banged for nearly 6 full laps until the race was
stopped to bunch the cars back together.
Keith Stockton came across the finish line first at the
end of 10 laps.
