TRI-COUNTY MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Press Release
By Dillon Houser / Media Director TCMS
The sounds of racing engines and screeching tires will fill
the air this Friday Night as Tri-County Motor Speedway embarks
on their 2008 Season. With
the recent announcement that the NASCAR Whelen All American
Series is on board with TCMS this year, the buzz among race
drivers and race fans have been at an all time high.
Drivers throughout the southeast are planning to invade
the speedway to compete for coveted NASCAR points that enhance
their chances at being Crowned the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series
National Champion or the North Carolina State Champion which
will pay an additional $14,000 to the winner from NASCAR.
Cars Plus has come on board to sponsor the $2,500 Triple
Crown Series for the Late Model Stock Cars featuring added
prize money for the top four Drivers who accumulate the most
points in the three extended lap features.
The first of the Triple Crown Series Events is this
Friday night with the Lowes Foods 100.
The featured division will be the NASCAR Late Model Stock
Cars and already committed to run the full season are some
high caliber drivers such as former TCMS track champion Josh
Goble, former New Asheville Speedway track champion Lee Tissot
and two time Hickory Motor Speedway track champion Andy Loden.
Each of these drivers said recently while testing their
race cars during open house that the addition of NASCAR will
increase the competition level and should provide high car
counts.
The Limited Late Models are the sister division to the Late
Model Stocks providing the drivers with less experience to
gain necessary experience before moving up the racing ranks at
a lower cost to them. This division will be chopped full of
rookies with a few veterans mixed in and could possibly be the
most exciting division to watch.
Pepsi returns as title sponsor of the Super Stock division.
Steve Parris and Brian Stahl
will be some of the drivers from last year that are set
to run for the track championship.
The Baton Tire Street Stocks will have former street stock
champs such as Kevin Eby and Marshall Sutton running again
along with other veterans, David and Jonathon Smith and Jeremy
Pelfrey.
Red Baron Race Parts will be the title sponsor for the
entry level division the Hobby Stocks.
Defending track champion Nikki Long and many rookies
will compete throughout the season like Todd Arnette running
for rookie of the year honors and the track championship.
Throughout the 2008 Season the track will host several
special events such as the Monster Truck Nationals, Super Cup
Stock Car Series, UARA Stars Touring Series and the ISCAR Dash
Series.
Spectator gates open at 6PM and the racing action starts at
8PM every Friday night. Courtesy of Kingsford Charcoal, Bush's
Beans and BallPark Franks, there will be a picnic in the
trackside parking area starting at 6:45. If you have a Lowes
Foods reward card, adult admission is 50% and with the
purchase of an adult admission, one child will be able to get
in free with that adults ticket purchase.
Ticket prices for this weekends event are $15 adults,
$13 senior citizens, $5 kids.
