Galaxy Foods Sponsors Season Opening Event at Tri-County
Motor Speedway
Hudson, North Carolina (April 10, 2005) - Galaxy
Foods, based in Hickory, NC, has signed on as sponsor of the
“Race of Champions,” on April 14th, opening
night, at Tri-County Motor Speedway in Hudson, N.C.
Galaxy Foods has been a longtime supporter of local racing and
has six stores in Alexander, Catawba and Burke counties. These
locally owned and operated businesses are The Fresh Air Galaxy
and Market Basket Galaxy stores. The company has
provided several store gift certificates to be given away
during the evening to lucky fans.
The season at Tri-County will kick-off with a 100-lap Late
Model Stock event, with current champion Josh Goble and at
least six former track champions from various speedways
expected to enter. Pepsi Cola Bottling has re-signed to
support the Pepsi Super Stock Challenge, which will have what
is anticipated to be the largest field of cars yet.
Several new teams have expressed interests in the
division, with some having already been at the speedway
tweaking and tuning their cars, with hopes of giving Scott
Franklin, the current champion, a run for his money.
The Street Stock drivers are set to try to unseat Kevin
Eby’s reign as champion in the division, while Eby is
bringing out a new car in an attempt to hold on to his throne
and claim his sixth championship at the speedway.
With fewer and fewer tracks running the stock four cylinder
division for Mini Stocks, more cars are expected to be on hand
to thrill the fans once more, as drivers chase Doug Setzer,
the 2005 champion.
The Fast and Furious division has a new sponsor on board,
as Baton Tire & Auto has signed to support the front wheel
drive class. Champion Jeff Poston plans to
return to race at Tri-County and hopes to earn his second
championship in a row. The 2004 champion,
Stephen Clippard, has purchased a fast Honda, in hopes of
reclaiming the honors.
Jeff Banks will be unveiling his new ride in the Tri-County
Minis, after a very successful 2005 season that earned him the
title of champion. There will be new faces
in that division, as well.
Pit gates open for competitors at 4pm. Trackside
parking will open at 5, with the main grandstand opening at 6
and practice will also begin at 6. Qualifying begins at 7 and
the green flag will drop on the 2006 season at 8pm. The
special “early bird giveaway” will be held at 7pm.
Adult tickets will be $12, seniors $7 and children 12-4 are
$5. Children under three and under are
admitted free.
