Goble Claims Win at Tri-County
by Pat Simmons
Hudson, NC (September 9, 2005) - Tri-County
Motor Speedway has been billed as the place "Where Action
is the Attraction." Friday night the speedway lived
up to its name in fine fashion.
Josh Goble picked
up the win after Dennis Gallion led most of the event, but
with three laps to go, was tagged by Jimmy Doyle and his
chances for his first win of the season ended.
Gallion started on the front row with Matt Leicht and
was able to get the jump at the green and was able to maintain
the lead until lap 47, when he was passed by Goble.
Still holding onto second, Gallion came under yellow flag
conditions with the rest of the field when Bobby DeCola took a
wild ride down the backstretch.
DeCola was able to restart, but then on the next
restart his night was finished when he tangled with Jacky
Buckner. Another attempt at a restart was made after the
track was cleared and on this restart Gallion was recipient of
a little bumper tag from Jimmy Doyle and that was the end of
his hopes for a great finish. Gallion’s car was towed
to the pits, while Doyle was sent to the rear of the field as
a penalty.
With all that action going on behind Goble he was
able to go for the checkered flag and Ricky Bryant took home
second.
Kevin Leicht was third with Nick Waycaster fourth and
Bill Cassavaugh posted in the fifth position. John
Reynolds was sixth and Doyle came back in three laps for
seventh. Jackie Buckner was eighth, Toby Hopkins
ninth and Stan Robinson tenth.
In the Pepsi Super Stock Challenge, it looked as
though Monty Cox was going to pick up the win after a couple
of weeks without his primary motor, but Scott Franklin had other
ideas.
Cox took the lead at the drop of the green, but on
lap 24 of the 30 lap race, Scott Franklin battled his way past
Cox. The pair put on a show for the fans as
they battled side-by-side for several laps, keeping fans on
their feet.
Franklin made the pass, while Cox brought home second
with Marshall Sutton third. These top three are in a tight
points battle for the championship.
Allen Buzze posted fourth in his first race, while Brian Stahl
was fifth.
Kevin Eby was able to pick up the win in the Hudson
Superette Street Stocks and was able to celebrate with family,
including his infant daughter in victory lane.
Jesse LeFevers was second with Kevin
Townsend third, Josh Burchette fourth and Mike Hatton fifth.
In the Mini Stock feature, A.J. Sanders came out on
top while George Anen was second, Doug Setzer tird , Archie
Sanders fourth and David Pennell was fifth.
Wayne Harrington was able to get past Jeff Poston to
go for the win in the Fast and Furious feature. Jody
Church was second with Poston third, Stephen Clippard fourth
and Adam Hatton fifth.
The Tri-County Minis were in rare form as Drew
Bagwell took the lead at the drop of the green,
but Jeff Banks came on strong and came to the front. The
top four battled door-to-door but when the field came around
for the final lap Jeff Banks was leading the pack, while Ben
Leffler was second, Drew Bagwell fourth and Bethany
Bagwell fifth.
Next Friday night Road Rage will return with racing in all
other divisions. For more information call
726-6600 or visit the speedway.
