Gerst, Goble Split TUSCON Late Model Twin Wins

Hudson, NC (July 23, 2004) - Tri-County Motor Speedway hosted Twin 50-lap features for the Tuscon Late Models Friday night and fans were treated to two winners.

In the first feature event Josh Goble crossed the stripe first after starting from the pole and leading flag-to-flag holding off Bill Cassavaugh in the process.  Cassavaugh posted his best career finish on asphalt taking home second with Rock Harris following in third.  Jacky Workman was fourth and Gerst was fifth.

In the second race Cassavaugh was on the pole but Gerst was able to get the advantage at the start and grabbed the lead.  Goble was able to get by Cassavaugh and then Rock Harris would also get past and that would be the finishing order.   Workman would claim fifth.  On lap eighth Ashley Huffman and Jeff Melton got together when Melton possibly broke and oil line and began to spin. Melton's car then burst into flame from the flowing oil and was quickly out with no injuries.  Melton was attended to by rescue and fire personnel but was uninjured and required no treatment.

Monty Cox also started from the pole and was able to take the win in the Super Sport feature.  Kevin Dill was second, Mark Livingston was third, Marshall Sutton fourth and Donnie Buckner was fifth.

In the Mini Stock shoot-out Tim Canipe came back with a vengeance after an absence to take the win.  Canipe's brother, Randy, was second with Ricky Dennie third, Scott Whittington fourth and T.J. Canipe was fifth.

Kevin Eby held off a hard charging  Gary Ledbetter to win by a nose in the Street Stock feature.  There were a few tense moments in that race also as Jeff Campbell lost an engine on the final lap and erupted into flames.  The fire was quick to extinguish itself and Campbell was unhurt.  Jamey Mitchum was third, Marshall Sutton fourth and David Smith fifth.

In the Fast and Furious feature newcomer Jeff Poston was able to take the win in his first race with Jon Ebling earning second in his second outting.  Worley Robbins was third, Stephen Clippard was fourth and Richard Watts was fifth.

Next Friday night TCMS will host the Winged Outlaw Sprint cars and regular racing in all divisions.
