Harris Rocks On To Late Model Win
Hudson, NC (April 16, 2004) - Friday night racing at
Tri-County Motor Speedway attracted a large crowd and drivers
did their best to thrill the fans.
Rock Harris was back in victory lane after a long dry
spell, and after several lead
changes, Harris took the point on lap 28 of the 50-lap feature
to earn the win. Dexter Canipe. Jr. was fastest in
qualifying for the pole with Jacky Workman sharing the front row.
Canipe grabbed the lead at the drop of the green and held the
point until lap 17, when Andy Loden took his turn on the
point. Loden held the top spot until lap 28, when
his engine let go, giving the lead to Harris.
The first caution came out on lap 8 when Stephen Woodie,
Kenny Campbell and Brian Pedrick all crashed in turn four.
The final caution flew on lap 32 when Nick Waycaster backed
into the turn one wall. As Harris took the checkered
flag Canipe followed in second with Workman third, Jay Gerst
fourth and John Reynolds fifth. Kevin Leicht was sixth,
Woodie came back for seventh and Kenny Sigmon was eighth.
Kyle Mansch was ninth and Brian Pedrick tenth.
In the Super Sport 30-lap feature Kevin Dill took home the
trophy after taking the lead on lap 11, when leaders Jeff
Hagaman and Monty Cox crashed in turns three and four.
As Dill crossed the finish line, Cox returned to take second
with Marshall Sutton third, Donnie Buckner fourth and
Mark Livingston fifth.
The
Mini Stocks battled for 50-laps and when all was done Randy
Canipe came home the winner with Waylon Flynn second, Scott
Whittington third, Rickie Dennie fourth and Tyler Church
fifth. The first caution came out on lap one with
a spin on the back straight. On the next restart
TJ Canipe and Hank Hefner tangled in turn four and then the
third caution for a stalled Tim Canipe. The final yellow
flew on lap 12 when Allen Huffman crashed hard into the turn
two wall.
The Street Stocks race went to Marshall Sutton after he
unseated Kevin Eby on lap 10 for the lead. Jessie Lefevers was
third, David Smith fourth and Josh Burchette was fifth.
In the Fast&Furious race Worley Robbins continued his
winning streak with Stephen Clippard second and Mike Hamilton
third.
Next Friday night, April 23rd, TCMS will host Twin
25-lap Street Stock races along with the Allison Legacy Series
and regular racing in all other divisions.
